Bonaberi, Douala: The Industrial Bank and Gateway to the West
Bonaberi is a neighborhood located on the right bank of the Wouri River, connected to the rest of Douala by the bridge. It is an area with a strong industrial focus and a mandatory passage for goods and people heading to western Cameroon and the English-speaking regions.
Strategic Position & Traffic
Its industrial development since the 1980s and its role as a gateway to the west have created the infamous "Wouri bridge traffic jams", which can cause hours of delay. The completion of a second bridge has improved flow but does not eliminate rush hour congestion.
Industrial & Residential Character
Many industries set up here on formerly cheap land. This activity attracted a working-class population and created residential areas. It is considered the most bilingual (French/English) neighborhood in Douala due to its geographical position.
